Continuing Professional Development

The Sutherland Division of General Practice provides a range of educational activities for GPs and practice staff that focus on relevant clinical and practice support areas in general practice.

General practitioners make a vital contribution to achieving satisfactory healthcare outcomes for their patients. Participation in an effective and efficient continuing professional development program is essential to support this role. Effective CPD requires needs assessment, clear learning objectives, appropriate learning methods, reinforcement and evaluation and the Division is well placed to implement a program which combines these elements and which is accessible to local general practitioners.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities are conducted in a variety of formats. This involves seminars, small group learning, lunchtime workshops, active learning modules, clinical Audits. Application for point allocation is submitted to the RACGP.

POINTS REQUIREMENTS

  • General Practitioners must gain 130 points over the triennium. Completion of a minimum of two different Category 1 activities is required.
  • Requirements are the same for both full time and part time GPs.

The Division conducts 10 monthly CPD sessions per year. Other related program CPD activities also are included in our yearly education eg: Aged Care - a combined GP and Aged Care Facility seminar; Quality Use of Medicines Program - a combined GP and Pharmacist seminar; Practice Support -a combined GP and Practice Staff seminar.

Monthly Education seminars are usually held at Hazelhurst Gallery & Arts Centre, 782 Kingsway, Gymea. All other education activities are advertised at the time.

If you book into one the Division education activities and cannot attend, please contact the Division on 9525-4011 to cancel your registration. This would be appreciated as the Division must provide final numbers for catering purposes.

CPD POINTS

The Division applies to the RACGP for CPD points for all GP Education Activities.
The College sends out a statement of points twice per year.

Please note the Division does not have access to your points statement. You can find an update of your points statement by going to the RACGP website and logging your password.
