Welcome to the Sutherland Division of General Practice
On 1 July 2012, the Sutherland and St George Divisions of General Practice came together to form the South Eastern Sydney Medicare Local. Medicare Locals are locally based organisations, funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing, and responsible for ensuring local primary health care services work together to meet the health needs of their local community with the ultimate aim of improving the health standards of our community.
The Medicare Local’s role is to provide support to primary health care providers, such as GPs, practice nurses and allied health providers, to identify gaps in our local health system and to find ways to address them. Medicare Locals will have a critical planning, coordination and integration role and will work closely with local hospitals and other providers of care by bringing all the various health professions together. Medicare Locals will also assist patients to navigate our complex health system. The South Eastern Sydney Medicare Local Board of Directors is made up of people with a balance of skills, experience and independence and will play a vital role in overseeing good governance and setting the strategic direction of the organisation. Members of the board include:

- Dr Sharyn Wilkins, GP at Engadine and immediate past Chair of Sutherland Division board
- Dr Rowan Vickers, GP at Miranda and member of the Sutherland Division board
- Dr Klaus Stelter, GP and former Executive Director of St George Division
- A/Professor Peter Gonski, Geriatrician and Director of Southcare Aged and Extended Care
- Dr Carla Saunders, Ph.D, Registered Nurse and Epidemiologist
- Trisha Cashmere, Physiotherapist and Lawyer
- Roderick Thyer, Chartered Accountant
- Professor Nick Zwar, Professor of General Practice, Public Health and Community Medicine, University of NSW
